About Imam Dr Mohamed A. Hamed

Imam Dr. Mohamed was born and educated in Egypt, where he completed his Islamic studies through authentic chains of narration under eminent scholars and at the prestigious Al-Azhar University.

He holds Ijazah in the ten authentic Qirāʾāt (Qur’anic recitations), as well as Ijazāt in major Hadith collections, including Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Al-Muwaṭṭaʾ, and the works of Imam al-Nawawī, all with verified chains of transmission. He also holds Ijazāt in classical Arabic linguistics texts and is qualified and licensed to teach and grant Ijazah in the Qur’an, Arabic, Hadith, Fiqh, and Uṣūl al-Fiqh.

After migrating to Australia, Imam Dr. Mohamed completed a Master of Theology and a PhD in Sociology & Anthropology at the University of Newcastle.

With over 20 years of experience, he has travelled nationally and internationally as a visiting Imam and teacher, serving communities in the United Kingdom, Canada, Malaysia, and other countries. His work includes teaching, mosque leadership, curriculum development for Islamic schools, Islamic counselling, and active engagement in interfaith initiatives.

He is currently serving as the Imam of Islamic Centre of Newcastle (Mayfield Mosque), where he leads congregational prayers, and as a Chaplain at University of Newcastle and local hospitals.
